MARK WALSH | Why Modern Men Are Disconnected

HOME > PODCAST ARCHIVE

Today’s conversation is a homecoming—back to the body, back to character, and back to what it means to be a man. My guest, Mark Walsh, challenges the modern habit of living entirely in our heads—cut off from sensation, boundaries, and responsibility. We talk embodiment not as fitness or aesthetics, but using physical training to develop character, emotional regulation, and presence. From Stoicism and shadow work to doing hard things on purpose, this episode is about reclaiming awareness, expanding range, and building the discipline required to choose better behavior.

We also confront the cult of modernity: hyper-individualism, happiness culture, pleasure-seeking that produces pain, and the loss of religion, community, and moral formation. Mark makes the case that happiness is secondary to meaning and commitment and that true freedom is forged through discipline, not the absence of limits.

MARK WALSH

Mark Walsh is a psychologist, author, teacher, and leading voice in embodiment, known for challenging purely intellectual approaches to psychology and personal development. Drawing from psychotherapy, martial arts, yoga, and leadership training, Mark focuses on how awareness, breath, posture, and physical practice shape character, emotional regulation, and behavior. His work emphasizes that real change isn’t something you think your way into—it’s something you live and train into.

He is the author of How to Become Human: A Guide for Young Men and host of the Feral Philosophy, where he explores meaning, boundaries, and the cultural costs of modern disconnection. Blending Stoicism, shadow work, and disciplined practice, Mark makes a case for strength, responsibility, and coming home to the body in a disembodied world.

THE MEN’S FORGE

The Men’s Forge experience is open! It’s an immersive, in-person experience designed to strip away distractions and force clarity, discipline, and brotherhood. This isn’t a conference where you sit back and take notes—it’s a proving ground where you do the work. Over the course of the Forge, you’ll be challenged physically, mentally, and emotionally alongside other men who refuse to drift through life. You’ll leave with sharper self-awareness, stronger convictions, and a clear understanding of what it means to lead yourself, your family, and your life with intention. This April 23-26, we’re also bringing in Dewayne Noel as a guest speaker—an experienced leader whose message on resilience and responsibility cuts straight through the noise. Dewayne doesn’t deal in theory or platitudes; he speaks from lived experience and hard-won wisdom. If you’ve been feeling disconnected, unfocused, or stuck in your head, the Men’s Forge is your opportunity to recalibrate, reconnect, and step back into your strength. This is where men are forged—not comforted, not entertained, but built.
